What Would Jesus Do If He Were Me?
John Mark Comer asks this question in his book "Practicing the Way." I like it.
LORD,
What would you do today as an almost 57-year-old, post-menopausal woman? As a wife of 35 years? As a mother of three adult children who are very different and who are navigating a digital, changing-every-second, chaotic world? As a grandma of the most precious little girl and a soon-to-be-born baby boy? Oh and then there is work. What would you do at work? When you've been plugged into a job for 10 years and getting a bit itchy for some change?
Monday.
"They devoted themselves to the apostle's teaching, to fellowship, the breaking of bread and to prayer." How does Monday fit with those words from Acts 2? Can I practice those things on a Monday in October? Today?
Who knows but I think if you were me you would spend less time thinking about your own needs and probably a lot less money on hair products. I imagine there would be a lot less inner drama and turmoil and probably a lot more prayer. Maybe more time outside? Would you be more relaxed and move through things more slowly? When talking to others would you focus your thoughts and words on them instead of worrying about what they were thinking of you? Oh and I'm sure you'd judge less.
LORD,
It's Monday and a whole week of here, there, this, and that lies ahead. I'm hoping for a change in my outlook. I truly want to be your apprentice. I want to move from a me-based faith to a faith concerned with the carrying on of your work. Show me how today LORD. It's going to be a busy, crazy day - Monday's always are. A good time to think about change?
Lead on LORD. Here we go.
Amen.
