When You Need a Good Soak

I am blown away by Kate Bowler’s book, “Good Enough.”

Her words are exactly what I need for where I am right now.

Here is a sampling from the chapter, “Becoming Real.”

“Blessed are you who see the evidence of your own becoming, the places where you are worn from so much loving.”

“Blessed are you… because what is real is now showing through.”

“But this is what we hoped for right? To live and love. To be loved. To have our experiences show on our faces and in our cells. It is the real life of Jesus in us, being made visible, as all our seams show.”

Lovely. Lovely. Lovely.

I honestly want to sit and soak in a bathtub of these words. I want them to make my skin all wrinkly and fragrant. Becoming real. Worn from so much loving. The real life of Jesus in us. Having our seams show and all of it being what we hoped for.

To live. To love. To be loved.

Soaking. I’m soaking up all the words. I don’t want to leave here, don’t want to come out of this glorious bath, but the clock ticks and an actual shower needs taken.

Thank you Lord, that my seams are showing. Thank you for all the love and laughter that have creased my face and left a mark. Thank you for all the worry lines and furrow marks left by a heart that wants the best for all my precious ones. Watch over each of them today. May they grow and stretch and learn more about you and your love. The real life of you in us.

Please Lord.

Hear my prayer.

Amen
