Restore us, God Almighty;
make your face shine on us,
that we may be saved.
**** - Psalm 80:3,5,19
These are the words I first read when I cracked open my Bible this morning.
Soothing don't you think?
Saturday feels like the absolute perfect day to think about restoration and to ask God to make his face shine on us. Saturday seems to have the time and space especially after a week of go and go, do and do. My day today, my Saturday, feels like the time to plop down somewhere and holler for salvation and restoration, a chance to be rescued from what was and to prepare for what will be.
Here's my prayer.
LORD,
In the moment, in this right now place, I want to sing along with the psalmist:
Restore us God Almighty;
make your face shine on us,
that we may be saved.
Only you can restore us and save us - thank you.
I'm asking for a better understanding of your continual faithfulness, your always presence. I'm asking for humility and surrender so I can be a better and more worthy ambassador of your kingdom coming and of your will being done here, as I go through my day today, my Saturday.
May people see your holy name being represented by me, shining out of me.
.
May your will be done, not mine.
Forgive me for all the ways I will intentionally or unintentionally wrong someone, and if hurts comes my way, may I be quick to forgive.
Keep me from my evil desires. Protect me from my selfishness and my insatiable need to feed my ego and proclaim the good news about myself.
Today is yours. I am yours. May all the glory and honour be yours.
Restore us God Almighty;
Make your face shine on us,
that we may be saved.
Amen.
**** If you have time today to sit with an open Bible on your lap, read Psalm 80 in it's entirety and then flip to John 15 where Jesus talks about the vine and the branches. Notice anything? I love it when you see the hyperlinks Jesus uses to reveal to his Jewish audience who is is.
