And It Was Good

Cake is made, just need to ice it. Present and card were left out last night so it would be the first thing he saw this morning. Plan for tonight is set, complete with cake, ice cream and kids.

Whew!

Birthday prep for husband is complete.

Of course I need to hurry and get ready for work, think about dinner tonight, my hair, what I'm going to wear today, gather all my details and check all my boxes.

One more time - whew!

Rest.

God rested.

The entire creation story was written, so I'm told, to highlight rest.

Let's talk a little about rest.

"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you..... for my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

"...few things are needed - or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her." (Jesus talking to Martha in the midst of her hustle and bustle and anger at Mary resting at the feet of Jesus)

God created, said it was good and rested. Adam and Eve chose not to rest in God. They thought they knew better. So did the Israelites when offered the Promised Land. Rest in God? Trust him? Believe he was going to do what he said he was going to do? Nah. The Canaanites were huge! The Israelites decided they knew better so they wandered in the desert for 40 years.

Jesus also spent some time in the desert. Not 40 years, but 40 days. He was tempted to do what he thought was best, to not believe, to not trust, to do what made sense to his humanity. Jesus chose to rest.

Lord,

Teach me more about rest. I want to choose the better way and rest in you today.

Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Amen.
